Program Responsibilities

The Teacher
The teacher holds responsibilities such as:
  • Providing quality instruction in accordance to the Manitoba Curriculum Framework
  • Providing a positive, safe environment for learning
  • Arranging performances opportunities
  • Musical outreach to the community
  • Communicating with students, administrators, and parents
  • Being organized, professional, and accountable
  • Being readily available to help students

The Parent/Guardian
The parent/guardian must provide an instrument, method book, and other appropriate instrument supplies
The parent must also show support through:
  • Giving positive feedback
  • Encouraging healthy practice habits
  • Having a regular space in the home for the child to practice
  • Encouraging commitment to music making
  • Participation (ie. attending performances)
  • Notifying teacher if child will be away for rehearsal
  • If applicable, looking into private music instruction for your child

The Student
The student is accountable for their learning.  The student must show commitment through:
  • Bringing their instrument, method book, supplies, and a pencil to each rehearsal and lesson
  • Attending weekly small group lessons with their teacher
  • Attending rehearsals regularly, with prompt notification if rehearsal will be missed
  • Attending all performances
  • Attending performances of other band/music ensembles
  • Practicing regularly
  • Asking questions in rehearsal and in small group lessons
