Intro to Band Course (BAB10S)Intro to Band is available to any high school student of any grade, who has little or no experience in instrumental music. It is a fast-paced course designed to prepare students for entry into the RDPC Band Program who have not previously completed the Junior High Band program. Students will learn basic music literacy, theory, and instrumental performance skills in the context of a Concert Band. Students will choose one of the following instruments to receive instruction on: Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet or Trombone. Upon successful completion of this course, it is intended that students will be prepared to enter the RDPC performing band ensembles, and students wishing to do so will be strongly encouraged to enroll in them in the subsequent semester.
Students will be required to acquire a concert band instrument. In cases where students are unable to acquire an instrument themselves for any reason, please contact the instructor. We are able to loan a limited number of instruments out from the school, though supply and choice are limited. |
Student Instruments
Students enrolled in Intro to Band will require a wind instrument for use during the course, and should be prepared to bring it on the first day of class in September. Instruments are available for Rent or Purchase from Music Stores, and more information is available about these options below. Instruments are often posted for sale online, such as on the Thompson Music Parents Facebook page, but care should be taken when purchasing a used instrument to ensure the instrument is in good playing condition.
What instruments can I choose from?
Intro to Band students can choose from the following wind instruments:

Feel free to contact us if you have any questions.**
When should I order my instrument? Right away! You will need it for the first day of class in September, so don't delay. |
